Wood furniture is one of the more popular choices when it comes to furniture. Although wrought iron furniture in recent times has become a popular choice but wood furniture still has a lions share in the market. While this is true, buying wood furniture is a tricky thing as it is difficult to get the real thing and there are chances of getting cheated. Much like there is a lot of fluff flying when a car salesman tries to sell you a vehicle; the same can be said for wood claims by salesman. In this case, it is truly buyer beware.
The thing is that wood or solid wood is often mixed with plywood. Plywood is the great wood substitute these days. Yes most of the furniture you have may have a lot of plywood in it. Technically speaking plywood is wood, but it is probably not what you had in mind when shopping it is a number of small pieces bonded together using chemicals. Plywood may be flexible and strong but it often lacks the finesse of solid wood so make sure you thoroughly check the pieces of furniture that you are buying.
Then there is a “wood” known as particle board. Particle board is a recycled product which is made by the remnants of wood cuttings which are essentially glued together and pressed into board shapes. This material is very strong, but it not particularly pleasing to look at. It is often used in furniture in areas that are not visible to the naked eye, which means it may or may not concern you if it is included in your “wood” furniture.
